So after the “big party” today MIL took the girls. I headed to the gym (woot! 4 times this week I think) and Scott took a nap (old man!). I came home, got ready and left to go pick Lexi up and head to my mom’s for dinner. Emma is going with SIL to Tweetsie Railroad tomorrow. I sorta kinda want to go with them. But I have nursery tomorrow, Scott wouldn’t be able to go and I think Lexi is just a little too young to go. I’m pretty sure I’d just end up carrying her around. Anyway, we hung out at Mom’s for a bit and came home where I put Lexi to bed within about 30 minutes. I’m now finishing up some laundry, fixing Mom’s web site and studying for the Sunday School lesson tomorrow. I plan to go to bed fairly early as I’m pretty tired since Lexi had me up at 6:30 this morning after falling asleep at 7:30 last night. Ugh, I hope she sleeps later tomorrow.

Happy Birthday, Scott
Today Scott turned 32 today which is a long way from 18 when I met him. I just feel so old these days. A couple days ago he said he was getting too old to do something for his birthday but I knew his family, especially his mom, would want to do something. But it was kind of hard to plan something since he works nights all weekend. I told Scott yesterday we’d just order some pizza and have his parents over. Then I saw THE dessert (which was FANASTIC) and decided maybe make it a little bit bigger affair so last night while Scott was working I called his mom, sister, cousin and grandmother and told them to come over for lunch. Scott woke up to a little birthday party and while there were no streamers and balloons, he thanked me quite appreciatively after everyone had gone. I was glad he was happy and I DID work pretty hard on getting the house together, getting all the ingredients last night, making the pie today and even though the pizza was easy, I did order it all and get it myself with Lexi in tow which I think speaks for itself…and for goodness sakes I actually CALLED all his family members. I scored mega points today but I guess I don’t get to count them since it IS his birthday. So, happy birthday, babe.
it’s friday!
Glad it’s Friday. This week went extremely quick even though it was very low-key all week. I’m going to miss summer camp next week.
Tonight I braved Target by myself with the two girls even though Lexi was SO tired. But I really wanted to get Scott’s birthday card and ingredients for the birthday dessert I’m making him tomorrow so I didn’t have to worry about anything but making it in the morning before lunch when his family is coming over. The girls were great at Target so I decided to make a run for the grocery store to get the lemon and whipping cream that Target didn’t have. Hang on, I have to insert Emma and I’s conversation on whipping cream.
Emma: What did you say?
Me: Heavy. Whipping. Cream.
Emma: Heby Whooping Cream?
Me: No, Hea-vy. Whipping. Cream.
Emma: Heavy Whooping Cream?
Me[trying to extremely clear]: No. Heavy. Whipping. Whipping. Cream.
Emma: Heavy Whipping Whipping Cream?
Me (laughing): No, just Heavy. Whipping. Cream. You say each word once. Heavy Whipping Cream.
Emma: Heavy Whipping Cream?
Me: Yes, Heavy Whipping Cream.
That still makes me laugh–heavy whipping whipping cream. Anyway, on with the story…Lexi fell asleep about a quarter of a mile before the store but I went in anyway thinking she would wake up long enough to go in there. But no, I carried a very heavy 2 year old throughout the store. I skipped on the cart and had Emma carry the two ingredients through the store. Lexi stayed asleep through the re-installment into the car seat and trip into the house to her bed too. When we got home, Emma played some computer games while I cleaned up the house. It was mostly straightened since our dinner last night, I just did the dusting and bathrooms and such.
After that, Emma and I did some of her reading lessons and guess what? She read TWO words tonight “mat” and “sat”. She catches on so quickly, we do like 5 lessons at a time and it repeats itself so she’s like Mom! I know those sounds! I end up skipping some of the stuff just because we are doing so much in one sitting. Probably the next session she will get to the one where she reads the sentences “see me read”. I may cry when she does that.
So now I’m doing laundry and getting ready to watch Miss Potter which I’ve heard good reviews on.
yay for cold, filtered water
We’re getting one of these on Monday. The Y has a fancy-dancy one that produces some excellent water that’s tapped into the main water line instead of in a replaceable jug. I really want one as I get tired of buying and wasting water bottles and do not like our tap water too much. But guess how much that costs a month? $39.95 and guess how long they make you sign a contract for? 60 months! That is ridiculous! Some car loans aren’t even that long. So we ended up with a nation 21 loans one. We probably can get away with $16 a month, maybe up to $24 depending on how much we use it, ie, how much water the kids waste. Even if we ended up with another bottle for about $32, it is still cheaper per month and the contract is only for one year. And it’s not so permanent. With the other, you have run a drain line as well as the water line to it. You’d have to be pretty serious about filtered water to get one of them bad boys.
Birthday coming up
I will be 29 next Wednesday. Usually I am super excited about my birthday but of course as the years go by, I have been less excited about adding another candle to the cake. I REALLY am not looking forward to this one. Because that means it is my LAST year in my 20s which means I’ll be THIRTY. I still clearly remember being 9 and on my 10th birthday as I blew out the candles thinking, good-bye single-digit years (yes, I was a dork then too). I don’t wanna say good-bye to my 20’s. That means I’m all grown-up and I’m supposed to check that little 30-35 age range checkbox on surveys and I just don’t. like. that. Yes, I’m whining. I’m hanging on to 28 for the next 4 days and I hope someone asks me how old I am every day just so I can say 28 four more times.
dah-da-da-daaahh
Another boring morning here. Last night was somewhat eventful though. We had a couple and their two kids over last night. This is P&T whom we’ve been friends with for years but only recently got back in touch with. Years ago we were pretty active with them but they were struggling financially and emotionally and it took a toll on Scott and I to be friends with them. It sounds bad, but it was the kind of thing if they didn’t hear from you every 72 hours, they thought we weren’t their friends anymore. Any little thing that was said that could be construed was. They had a general negative outlook on life at the time. They eventually left our church and we altogether lost contact with them. In the past few months Scott has been talking to P and they came over a few weeks ago and we had a great time together. Hence, we planned last night’s dinner which was also very nice. So in the past few years, they have become pretty successful in their home business. They own 3 houses at the moment, several cars, they just had a baby last year and all of that plus finding a church they fit in with and are active in has led them to be at a better place emotionally (and financially, of course). So now they can be themselves without a chip on their shoulder or whatever it was. You aren’t tip toeing around them now and they are really fun to be around actually.
So after they left when the kids were in full-whine mode, I left for the gym and Scott handled bath time and bed time. By the time I got home at 8:45, both kids were asleep in bed. Nice. Fantastic, in fact. I watched So You Think You Can Dance and a little of The Office and then went to bed. That’s about it for last night.
Today Scott is off helping with the church with VBS block party probably until early afternoon. The girls are at their last day of camp and my mom is planning to get them later. I have no plans really except tomorrow is Scott’s birthday and I may make him a pie (he doesn’t care for cake) tonight and maybe plan a lunch tomorrow with his family when he wakes up from working tonight since he has to work every night this weekend. Who knows. Maybe his mom will decide to have a big dinner/cake thing after church Sunday.
annoying, disgusting Chick-fil-a man
OK, I have to tell this story, not because it’s cool or amazing or it will make you cry buckets of tears, just because I feel like I need a cleansing from this annoying, disgusting Chick-fil-a man.
Yesterday I stopped at CFA (it’s too hard typing it out) on the way home from picking the girls up from preschool camp. When I pulled in the parking lot, the drive-thru line was almost wrapped around the building. By the time I was 2 people away from the ordering thingy, this guy in a slick, blue grey Volvo something or other just sits there when 3 people in front of me was done ordering. Sits there long enough where the guy in front of him completed his order. I was going to beep my horn as there were probably 6 more cars behind me but I do not EVER beep my horn. I’m a pretty patient person that doesn’t really like to draw attention to myself so the only time I do it is when I’m in Maryland saying bye to people cause that’s how they do it up there. When in Rome..right. Anyway, so I actually tried to beep my horn but dorky me did not press hard enough to make a sound and the guy moved forward as soon as I did (or didn’t) do that.
So, I’m sort of patiently waiting for this guy to order and I’m looking at him in his sideview mirror and he’s sort of coughing his way through his quick order. I see him turn his head inward towards his car and when I see him in the mirror again, he has his mouth open with a ball of snot right on the tip of his tongue (almost gagging typing that). He closes his mouth, drive forward about 10 feet and proceeds to spit it out in the grass. I about puked. I pulled forward and was actually forced to order food after seeing that.
Pictures
I have a new favorite floral picture that I’ll be trading out for a picture in the next copy of my book. Isn’t it beautiful..and to think it’s in MY yard…
