I don’t know who else to share this with except Heather and Scott and this is just too good to only tell TWO people…please don’t be sick of hearing about my OTH site but I think we are going to hit THIRTY THOUSAND page views today. As in 30,000. Like, with FOUR ZEROS. In ONE day.

AI Top 8 Girls
Wow, I love the 80’s on the girls. Suited them well. I think it’s just I liked those songs they sang. Almost every time I told Emma, oo, this is a good song!
Brooke White – I believe she was my favorite of the night. I continue to be a big fan of hers. She has the right balance of humbleness and ability to glory in a compliment.
Amanda Overmeyer – That was AWESOME.
Carly Smithson – Fantastic
Kristy Lee Cook – I liked her version of the song.
Ramiele – Good but a little boring
Kady – very forgettable
Syesha – good but just I felt blah after listening to it
Asia’h – She’s peppy alright but I just don’t think in the end her voice matches the others
I’d be happy if Kady and Asia’h did not make it to the Top 12.
Curtains – before and after
I FINALLY got some curtains up in my dining room. Mom owns a business selling them and custom blinds so you would THINK I would have them as soon as we moved in but no. And it’s not her fault either. I am so flighty and indecisive when it comes to curtains. I think it’s because I’ve been around it my whole life and I know all the options. Of course, my mom and sister do too and I don’t think they are nearly as bad as me. I think I’m just one of their "bad" customers. It took FOREVER to pick the fabric out and literally months to decide on the hardware. I didn’t get great pictures, but here you go.
And a close up of the fabric and hardware:
I love, love, love it. To me it makes the room look so much more "grown-up" and complete. And when we put dark hardwoods down in there and maybe get a rug and get new fabric on the chairs…oh boy, we’ll be cooking then.
Wordless Wednesday: Attack of the laptop
Officially Registered
Alright, today was the big Kindergarten registration day. All four of us went so Lexi could see where Emma would be when we tried to explain where she was come August. The entire process was VERY organized. They had five stations you had to go to. We only had to pay $20 to register. Sweet!! Preschool snack fee is more than that! The first station noticed that there was ANOTHER Emma. Apparently that is the name of the year. Seriously, EVERY girl there was named Emma. There was Emma Jo, Emma Lee, Emma Caroline. One time they actually called for the parents of Emma and we were like which one??
So we filled out a ton of paperwork and then Emma got her speech checked. Her and another little girl got theirs done at the same time. They went by themselves. I had a little moment of panic when they took her by herself. I was hoping Emma didn’t freak out and not talk–especially on her speech test! When they came out and we went to the last station, the lady asked her her name and both Scott and I looked at each other shocked when Emma said “Emma.” Honestly, Emma is SO shy at talking to strangers.
So after that, they took the two girls down to the library. All the Kindergarten teachers were each at a table and worked with one child individually on their evaluation. They had the sheet in our packet so I got to see what they test them on. They had to recognize the numbers and letters and also count a set of 10 objects. They had to recognize their colors and shapes and body parts. And the only part that was sketchy for Emma was their phone number, address and birthdate. Emma just told me yesterday that they are going to learn their phone number in school so the teacher said that’s what Emma told her. She could tell her our city and the month of her birthday but that was it. She said she did excellent and she was not shy at all and was enthusiastic giving her the answers. When they called us back in, Emma was shy again, wanting on my lap and hugging me close.
While we were waiting was the only time I got a little panicked. Lexi, Scott and I were in the hallway and Emma had been in the library for a few minutes and Lexi asked where Emma was and then said, “I want my sissy back!” I looked and Scott and said I can’t do this! There’s definitely going to be some adjustment on our parts without Emma around all the time.
At the end, we bought Emma a t-shirt and hair bow and sticker for our car. They said they have spirit week the first Friday in the month and Emma was excited about the bow although I think she could have cared less about the shirt. They have cute colors…maroon, black and yellow.
Although I was nervous when Emma had to go do things by herself and I know we’ll have some adjustments to make with her gone most of the day, I got excited for her today. Everyone was so nice and I know she is going to love her new friends and all the activities they do. The school is literally 1.4 miles and 3 minutes from our house so I don’t think taking her and picking her up is going to be an issue. But really, I’m glad we have five months before she actually starts! I really think we’ll both be excited about it by then.
Works for Me Wednesday: Backwards Edition
OK, I have two questions.
One is related to my freak-out about Emma starting kindergarten this year. Any tips from those who have been there-done that? Pack a lunch or buy? What to include in a packed lunch? Ride the bus or pick them up? Any other tips on sending your first one off to kindergarten?
The second is about my shower. How do I get the soap scum off the walls?
Oh the DIAL-UP
I had lots of posts planned (with pictures) for tonight to make up for the lack thereof today and guess what happened? We had some major storms around here and my cable modem is knocked out. Which means, YES, I’M ON DIAL-UP as we speak. I literally LOL when I heard the modem being to dial. I think the last time I had heard that sound is two seasons ago for American Idol when I was using DialIdol trying to get Chris to win. And at that point, I barely heard the noise as I dialed my phone and sent txt messages on my cell phone 🙂
So tonight guess where I went after dinner?? C-V-S , oh yes, oh yes. And guess what? I got MORE toothpaste, toothbrushes and razors! Oh, the insanity of it all. The cool news is I walked in with $5 ECBs from Scott’s card and walked out with $23 ECBs oh and probably $35 worth of merchandise.
I spent the rest of the evening watching TV with M and Heather. American Idol, OTH and Life of Ryan were all on the list. And since then, I’ve been trying to catch up on the Internet on DIAL-UP since it’s been down all afternoon. And hopefully tomorrow morning I’ll wake up and it will be all fixed and I can actually do a couple of those posts I mentioned.
