So proud of Emma tonight. She told me after school the new big thing at school was all the Dr. Seuss books. Now, I bought her a Dr. Seuss book before she was born and a few more since then but they’ve always gone unnoticed. Any time I’d try to read them, she’d be highly uninterested. But she was insistent on telling me several times Mrs. Teacher had A BUNCH and they all rhymed. I was happy to show her several of the books we had and she started carrying them in her arms. And then. She read two of them. All by herself. That’s the most she’s read in one sitting to date.
So proud I could shout loud
on a cloud I’m so wowed.
The first book I ever read by myself was Green Eggs and Ham…ahh memories! That’s so sweet!!! Suess is the best!
Lindsey G.’s last blog post..SELLING MY SOUL!!!! (aka We’re buying a house!)
I honestly never understood the big deal about Dr. Seuss until Emma started to read. The repetition and rhyming is great for new readers. I really don’t remember Dr. Seuss from childhood much. I’m sure my mom might disagree.
Your right. You guys were just not into Dr. Seuss. We did have a few. I think you just never connected with the illustrations or something. I would try too to get you and Heather into them because they were so popular back then as well. Mom
Haha…Amy, I love that your mom comments on your blog…that’s just…very cool. Makes me miss my mom. I know, isn’t it such an awesome feeling to listen to your child reading. It amazes me how they pick it up and make that connection. Yay Emma!
