Today finished up this Song of Songs series. Can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed. Today was fantastic and really felt God speaking His love to me today. As always, highly recommend the podcast.
True love doesn’t look for a reason to quit.
You know trouble is coming in your relationship, are you committed to working it out?
Beloved in Song of Songs demands true love.
SoS 8:6 “seal on your arm” is like a wedding band. She wants him to have an inward commitment as strong as the band is outwardly. She wants a love as permanent as death…there is no Plan B.
“jealous as the grave” jealousy is to want something that is rightfully yours. She wants him to be jealous of her and want her.
“fiercest flame of all” speaking of God’s love. It’s unquenchable.
Temporary love loves out of our needs. When our needs aren’t being met, we want to move on.
True love loves out of our abundance. God fills up and we love out of that.
Fairytale love is possible through Him.
The Song of Songs is a Love poem and has many commentaries that explain many ideals, but it is more on Spiritual relationship with Christ than a relationship or courtship with earthly persons. It is easy to compare the SOS with the physical relationship, but it goes deeper than that. Those who truly love Christ, are jealous of every thing that would draw them from him; especially of themselves, lest they should do any thing to provoke him to withdraw from them. If we love Christ, the fear of coming short of his love, or the temptations to forsake him, will be most painful to us. This is the only Jealousy that can be rationalized or acceptable, all other form of jealousy is destructive in human nature. Nice blog though. Bless you.
I would argue it is indeed about an earthly relationship. Check SoS 4, specifically v 16 and it's difficult to pull off the argument that that is about our relationship with Christ. HOWEVER, I think that our relationships on earth DO point to our spiritual relationships as well and there is much to be learned about our relationship with God through SoS. Marriage should be a picture of Christ and His church. And I agree, in most cases, jealousy is destructive.
Again, I highly recommend listening through the series' podcasts. The blogs don't come close to relaying the information as well!

V 16 of Ch4 is just my point, The before verses tell of a kind of earthly love but its mostly spiritual. You really can not take it for its literal meaning, Many scholars have even argued if the SOS was a play or a drama of sorts that depicted the body and its temptations, its desires and the longing for love of an earthly sense from a spiritual sense. This book depicts the very essence of the love we should long for but can not have outside the spiritual relationship with Christ. I love the SOS and I do not believe like some do, that it is the dirty book of the bible…like I said above, its deeper than that. We are made in the image of Christ but can not interpret the love of Christ because we are sinners. The SOS is a love story. Too many people think of Christ as an earthly man a figure of a man, but in heaven there are no sexes, you are sexless. So this to me relates to a spiritual relationship and how that relationship should be viewed. There a ton of commentaries on the SOS and they all have one thing common…none can say this was actual or a drama, or a play of sorts. Like most of the bible…you have to take it for what it is to you not what someone tells you it is or means. Thats why it is the LIVING word. And fairy tell love is possible IN him alone, fairy tell love is not achievable in an earthly form because of sin and the sin that embodies us constantly.Lastly, Jealousy is destructive in all forms of an earthly desire, there is NO healthy form of jealousy…. jealousy is many many things that can not be explained away in simple logic. In conclusion when one starts thinking beyond earthly logic and beliefs the meaning of Gods word takes on a new meaning, The SOS takes on the form of earthly love because most of the world thinks of love in an earthly realm of logic and understanding, but when you begin to think and study and meditate on the word in a spiritual sense… the word of God takes on a meaning beyond earthly desires. Its like if you look at fruit in its definition then that is all it means…but if you look at the meaning of fruit in a spiritual thought and understanding….well, it becomes more, just like the SOS. bless you Amy and thank you for arguing this point well. You are right, there is no wrong, we just view SOS in two different ways.
