American Idol Finale

May 22, 2012 by Amy

The first two rounds I think went to Jessica.  Jennifer was right that it’s really hard to compare because they’re so different but I just think it’s hard to say that Phillip has better vocals than Jessica. That being said, Phillip is WAY more likable, WAY more creative, WAY more unique and generally the better artist.  Still, I was a little worried going into the final round.  However, when Jessica made a mess of whatever that horrible (and inappropriate) single was, I was feeling better.  And then. THEN.  Phillip bossed that legit new single around and it was AWESOME.  By FAR my favorite new single anyone has ever chosen for the finale.

All that said, I almost don’t want Phillip to win so he doesn’t have to bend to “the machine” and he can do his own thing.  Still, I really hope Phillip’s name goes down in the record books as the best of the season.  It’s been a great one. Colton, Joshua, Skylar and Phillip will go down as my favorites and I just can’t wait to see what they do.  Thanks for reading all my ramblings of another Idol season.  Until next time!

Jessica showed terrific control during her songs – at least for the first half of ’em anyway. (I’m not a fan of the screechy growling thing that she often inserts at peak moments of her songs.) My biggest issue with Jessica is still that she seems so immature and only rarely seems to connect or identify with the material.

But Phillip was terrific! The melodic portions of his new single are something I don’t think he ever would’ve attempted at the beginning of the season. He’s really grown as a singer during the course of the show and that only helps to further make his artistry shine. I believe he’ll win tonight, but even if he doesn’t, I’m eager to hear the album he creates. I was so happy to see Phillip bring Mindi Abair back in again – the sax is a great accompaniment for his style and her relaxed vibe fits his too.

Yes, I was reading somewhere and they said if Phillip wins, he owes it all to Mindi Abair. I love the sax so I hope he keeps her around.

I was really happy to see that Phillip won. I guess I should have watched this season more! 🙂 Last night’s show was very interesting! lol

When it came down to it, I really, really wanted Ryan to call Phillip’s name. I just really do hope he gets to make his own music and not some canned music they have for him. Last night was NOT a fair representation of the season. It was pretty bad actually.
