Five Minute Friday: Full

July 22, 2011 by Amy

“Just write without worrying if it’s just right or not. For five minutes flat.”

There’s a story I want to tell.  My story.  From six long years ago.  But it’s a story of failure and shame and deceit and lies and a broken marriage.  And it’s hard to talk about.  But I know I need to share my story and I feel the fear shutting me down every time.  But God has bigger plans.  I know it, I feel it. He won’t let me go.  He never lets me go.  He has this plan and he’s going to do what he always does.  Makes beautiful things out of us.  He takes the worst of us and makes it the best of us.  Even kicking and screaming and wanting to forget it all.  He never lets us forget how he saved us from ourselves.  How without him we’d screw it all up over and over.  And it reminds us to stay close.  Stay away.  Stay submitted.  Surrendered. Redemption of our sin does more for us than perfection ever will.  So how can I say no?  How can refuse the Maker when he’s wanting to make something?  I am only a vessel, a piece of clay to be molded. I must remember this.  And write.

I wrote this as part of theGypsyMama’s Five Minute Friday.  I didn’t pay attention that the prompt was “full” but it’s clear I am full.  Full of story.

Amy, I totally get where you’re coming from! It’s scary to feel the call to share something, to let Him work with materials you’d rather not drag out. I hope your story is used greatly in His plans…He always knows best, doesn’t He? Thanks for sharing your struggle at The Gypsy Mama.

    Blessings to your family!

Do it. Write it. Don’t worry if it’s right or not.

Stories need to be born – this one sounds like she’s nearly full term.

I appreciate your courage. When we’re real we realize earth’s chorus, and heaven’s, is a loud cry from broken hearts. I love that redemption is better than perfection. I wonder if perfect hearts could offer worship as valuable as redeemed ones? Thank you for sharing!

Yes I believe so but I don’t know believe we are capable of such. What I meant is our sin teaches us things and is always a reminder of how much we need Christ.

I love this part, “He never lets us forget how he saved us from ourselves. How without him we’d screw it all up over and over. And it reminds us to stay close.” We all have a story to tell, and it’s usually the mucky parts that God uses to reach out to someone else while “refining” us as a Goldsmith does. Love it.

To expose our failings and shortcomings can but is quite an uncomfortable spot. But the beauty is how the God sews the pieces of our lives to make a beautiful masterpiece.

Amy, you already know how your story has blessed others – you know how it impacted me. And there’s more to that I haven’t shared yet. So write it and I’ll be a reader and help you in any way I can. 🙂
